Are There Good People Out There?
by LaurenM ineven though i'm no longer mentally a jw (i still technically am) i do recognize that there are some benefits to being raised one.
for example, the first (and only so far) wordly guy i was involved with had to smoke weed every day and got drunk all the time and that was his idea of fun.
i couldn't help but feel bad for him.

Good is a broad word and means many things to different people. Jw good is not the same as my good. There are wonderful people out there. You need to take some time and get to know people without any religious morality.
This was sort of my point, though it obviously wasn't received well. I might add that I've also known JWs who were spendid people. On the other hand, I've run across a few $@&% up Disciples & Methodists too.

Convention in Denton, TX
by Boeing Stratofortress inanyone going to the convention this weekend in denton, tx?
it'd be great if there were some signs, or even some peaceful, silent protests organized to coincide with the event.
i'm thinking that a good 'template' might be the billboard design (located in texas, but far from this event).

Oh...you might be right! I know they've had Spanish assemblies there before.
You mentioned the Ft. Worth location being demolished. I wonder if it was sold for the property value, and whether they're going to build a replacement somewhere. Or...is it part of the maximize profit/cut losses downsizing that some are talking about?

Hmmm. Well, you might check out a Disciples of Christ, or Methodist Church. There might be some other ones like these, which promote works, in the form of helping people (ANYBODY) not just fellow adherants. I'd stay away from the fundamentist evangelical churches.
I'd suggest just popping into one of these during the week & see if you can BS with the minister for a bit. The Disciples, for example, are very non-judgemental, and are very open to different opinions. Kind of the polar-opposite of JWs.
Also...I've known quite a few atheists & agnostics who are really splendid people. One, a neighbor friend, recently went out of his way to nurse a mallard with a broken wing back to health. He took it into his home for a few days, and would check on it before and after work. I knew a JW that would leave his dogs outside in 105 degree heat, with little water & food. He'd also kick them when he had a bad day.

Just don't use "JWTRUTH dot com," which appeared on a prototype billboard, since it's not a legitimate site.

I'm thinking that a good 'template' might be the billboard design (located in Texas, but far from this event). Imagine numerous signs along the road leading to the event, with JWAWAKE.COM, or JWFACTS.COM in bold print!! Maybe add the pic of the woman with her mouth covered up, as on the billboard. This would be great timing too, just after G Jackson's appearance at the Royal Commission down under. There are no-doubt whispers of that inquiry, and along with rattled nerves and heated discussions cropping up amongst family members. So, a great opportunity to pounce!

Shocking development from Australian Royal Commission
by Esse quam videri init is reported that elder kevin bowditch was so upset at the grilling he received at the arc that he has traveled to austin, texas to prepare for any future encounters with angus stewart.. we see from various stages of the interrogation his increasing anguish.
he is reported as saying in private, '.. that's never going to happen again.
i think i was hung up and left out to dry by the governing body.

So...he's going to Austin, TX for some special 'training.' Do we know if this training is to be from secular, non-JW attorneys or law professors? After all, Austin IS the home of UT (University of Texas), which is ranked (US News & World Report), as one of the top 20 law schools in the U.S.
That's be quite ironic if he relies on Satan's system of worldly lawyers to prepare for future legal entanglements. Just sayin.'

To Defender:
Yes, I think that's great, to point out Loesch's failure to appear. Your outline is well written, but I think that Mr. Stuart would streamline it a bit, and take out references to Jesus, unless forced to do so by Jackson's failure to 'connect the dots.'
I think Stuart will approach from a secular legal angle at first.

Depressing chat to my still-in brother about the RC

I'm not/never been a JW, but if they say that "Jah is using the RC to make change," would that not give you an opening to bring up the Catholic abuse scandal?? For example, the current Pope, Francis, is actually talking reform in his church. Hmmm, is Jehovah guiding him directly? Why does he not guide the Gov Body in a similar way? Instead of using the RC to do so?
If nothing else, that should get the 'J-dub's' head spinning.
